This week I got the opportunity to speak with Lynne Le Gros, Head of Marketing for Business at Telecom New Zealand Ltd.

I asked Lynne some questions including:

  • What she thinks the biggest issues facing Small to Medium Enterprises in New Zealand is right now
  • What she sees that Telecom can do to help businesses with understanding their communication needs
  • What she believes will happen with the Mobile phone payment system that is currently being trialled in a co-operative project by the three major mobile providers

Thoughout this interview I came across a number of key concepts that business owners should take note of including:

  • Using your sales staff to be your eyes & ears into the market place
  • Packaging your products is a good idea for all businesses
  • Businesses need to keep in touch with their clients, using multiple channels
  • Be where your customers are -Be part of their world
  • Bring Personality into your business
  • It isn’t enough to be good at your trade/products/services; to be successful you need some specific business skills
  • Today customers are in the “drivers seat” more than ever. They demand what they want and how they want to get it; pay for it; and consume it
