12/01/11: Just thought it was worth mentioning that 2 weeks before this all happened facebook implemented it’s new ‘trending topics’ feature. I can’t help but wonder if this played any part in the rapid rise of this video. I learned of the video through facebook and I expect many others did too. A ‘trending topics’ facility creates a loop where a topic is trending, so more people check it out, so it is a higher trending topic, so even more people check it out etc.
I didn’t mention this in the video because I was not aware of it at the time. -I still don’t know that it has any impact but it is worth considering.
